How to get a photo under 20KB
Drop the photo
JPG, PNG or WebP from your phone or computer. It stays on your device — nothing is uploaded.
Check the goal
The size goal is already set to 20KB. Change it, or add exact pixel dimensions if your form asks for them.
Download
DigiCompress finds the best quality that still fits, shows the final size, then wipes the photo from the page.
Why 20KB is so common — and how to hit it without a blurry photo
Older portals were built to store thousands of small passport photos, so 10–20KB limits are still everywhere in admission, recruitment and registration forms. A modern phone photo is 2–5MB — over a hundred times too big.
Simply lowering quality makes faces blocky. DigiCompress first resizes the photo to a sensible size for a small portrait, then searches for the highest quality that lands under 20KB. If your form also asks for exact pixels (for example 300×300), set them and the photo is cropped to fit.
Tips for a sharp 20KB photo
- Crop close to the face
- Less background means more of the 20KB is spent on your face.
- Plain background
- A smooth white or light background compresses far better than a busy room.
- Use JPG
- JPG reaches small sizes with the best quality. PNG photos are much larger.
- Remove hidden data too
- Phone photos can contain your location. The privacy scrub removes it.
