Compress a video for WhatsApp

Nothing leaves your device

WhatsApp limits videos sent from the gallery to about 16MB and compresses them heavily. Shrink the clip yourself first so it sends — and looks better.

Send long videos on WhatsApp

  1. Drop the video

MP4, MOV, WebM — even large files up to 2GB from your phone or camera.

  2. Keep the 16MB goal

DigiCompress works out the right quality for the length of your clip and caps it at 720p, which is what WhatsApp shows anyway.

  3. Share

Save the video and send it on WhatsApp. Nothing was uploaded to us.

Why WhatsApp says your video is too large

Videos sent as media from the gallery are limited to about 16MB, and status videos to about 16MB and 30 seconds. Longer clips are cut or refused. You can send bigger files as a document, but then they won’t play inline.

Shrinking the video to just under 16MB before sending gives you control over quality, instead of letting WhatsApp compress it again aggressively.

Tips

Very long videos
A 10-minute clip at 16MB has to be low quality. Trim it first, or send as a document.
Phone storage
The compressed copy is also great for freeing space on your phone.
Voice notes too
Use the audio compressor for long recordings.
