Four steps, all on your device
The compressor walks through the same four stages every time, and shows you each one as it happens.
-
Step 1
Select
Drop a file or pick one. There’s no upload bar, because nothing is uploading — your file stays with you.
-
Step 2
Verify
A quick safety check confirms your file really is the PDF, photo or video it claims to be. Anything suspicious is blocked.
-
Step 3
Compress
Choose your compression level and watch your file shrink instantly. Your browser stays smooth, fast, and responsive from start to finish—no lags, no freezing.
-
Step 4
Purged
Save your smaller file. DigiCompress then wipes both the original and the result from the page — nothing is left behind.

Why it matters where compression happens
Most “free online compressors” work by uploading your file to their servers, processing it there and sending a copy back. That’s fine for a meme. It’s a real risk for a payslip, a signed contract, a medical scan or an unreleased video.
| Question | Typical online compressor | DigiCompress |
|---|---|---|
| Where your file goes | Uploaded to a company’s servers | Never leaves your device |
| Who can read it | The service, its cloud host, and anyone who breaches them | Only you |
| How long it’s kept | “Deleted after 1–24 hours” — you have to trust that | Wiped the moment you’re done |
| Safety checks | Often trusts the file name | Confirms every file is what it claims to be |
| What’s logged | Varies; file names are common | Anonymous counts only — never names or contents |
| Waiting time | Upload, queue, then download | No upload; your device starts right away |
What we can see, and what we can’t
Here is the complete picture, not the marketing version.
What we can see
- That a file was shrunk, and what kind of file it was (for example “PDF”)
- Size before and after, how long it took, and whether it worked
- An anonymous visitor number, so we can count visits
- Your approximate country and city
- Device type and browser family
- Your email address — only if you choose to sign in
What we can’t see
- Your file, in whole or in part
- The file name
- Anything written, pictured or recorded inside it
- Any fingerprint of what’s inside your file
- Your IP address — it is scrambled before it’s stored and erased within 48 hours
- Any tracking or advertising cookies — there are none
The details are in how DigiCompress works and the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Email hello@digicompress.com.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your files never leave your device. Our system processes everything directly inside your browser window, giving you absolute 100% privacy with zero risk of your documents being intercepted or saved.
Do you keep a copy of my file?
We can’t — we never receive it. Your file stays on your device the whole time, and the moment you download your result (or close the tab), DigiCompress wipes it from the page. Nothing is left behind.
What can I do with DigiCompress?
Compress PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, photos, video up to 2 GB, audio and ZIP files; convert between formats such as PDF to Word or HEIC to JPG; copy text out of pictures and videos; remove image backgrounds; and remove hidden tracking data. Every tool runs on your device.
Is DigiCompress free?
Yes. You can use 2 files a day without an account, across all the tools. Sign in with Google or an email link to use it as much as you like. We don’t sell anything inside the tool, and we never ask for payment details.
What does the safety check do?
Before anything happens, DigiCompress checks that your file really is what its name says. A file that has been renamed to look like something else — a common trick for hiding harmful content — or a damaged file is blocked instead of being opened.
What do you record when I use a tool?
Only anonymous counts: the kind of file (for example “PDF”), the size before and after, how long it took, and whether it worked. We never record file names or anything inside your files. See what we can and can’t see for the full list.
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends on what’s inside. Photos, scanned PDFs and video usually shrink a lot — often by half or more. Files that are already compressed, such as small MP3s or text-only PDFs, have less room to shrink. DigiCompress shows the before and after size so you can decide whether to keep the result.
How fast is it?
Photos, PDFs and documents are usually done in a few seconds, with no upload or download wait. Long videos take a little longer on older phones, but your browser stays smooth the whole time and you can keep using the page.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes — on iPhone, iPad and Android, in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Samsung Internet and other up-to-date browsers, as well as on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebooks. For very large videos, a laptop or desktop finishes faster than an older phone.
